About
Us
The Philippine
Association of the Record Industry (PARI), a non-profit, non-stock, purely
private industry organization, was organized in 1972 with the following
objectives in mind:
FIRST: To promote and develop
a legitimate and viable music industry;
SECOND: To promote and develop
Pilipino music to world class status and to penetrate the world market;
THIRD: To protect copyright
owners against the unauthorized use, reproduction and sale of music and
sound recordings
FOURTH: To maintain musical
sound recordings as a medium that provides wholesome entertainment and
positive values to the public;
FIFTH: To liaise, work and
help the government for the betterment of the country in general and of
the music industry in particular, such as in legislation.
Objectives
In
pursuit of its objectives, PARI has:
First: Promulgated a Code
of Ethics to maintain harmonious relationships among various sectors of
the industry and to protect the public welfare;
Second: Worked with the
Legislative Branch of government to draft more sound copyright laws in
line with GATT and the recent Trade-Related Issues on Intellectual Property
Rights (TRIPS);
Third: Conducted raids on
and prosecuted music pirates in collaboration with the PNP, NBI, CIS and
the EIIB in order to address the increasing piracy of music;
Fourth: Worked on a regular
basis with the Executive Branch of government, such as the Department
of Trade and Industry, Department or Tourism and the Presidential Inter-Agency
Committee on Intellectual Property Rights (PIAC-IPR) to attain government
and industry objectives;
Fifth: Represented both
the music industry and the country in world for an organized by the likes
of the World Intellectual Property Organization and the International
Federation of Phonographic Industries;
Sixth: Organized local and
international concerts, competitions and festivals to promote Pilipino
music both here and abroad, such as:
1. AWIT
AWARDS - the annual awards for excellence in recorded music. (Now on
its 25th year)
2. PHILIPPINE INTERNATIONAL SONGWRITING COMPETITION - the only annual
international competition in Asia, a project organized with the Department
of Tourism with the objective of establishing the Philippines as the
music center of Asia.
